Test of the VABENE++ System Components

On May 26 and 27, 2014, the first major internal test of the VABENE++ system took place at DLR Oberpfaffenhofen. Employees from four different institutes of the locations in Berlin and Oberpfaffenhofen tested buildup, function and interaction of the system components, since several technical and software interfaces had been changed at the beginning of the project.

During the test, the mobile ground station was built up including operation tent, technical equipment and receiving station of the microwave data link. Despite poor weather conditions aerial images were acquired and the automatic processing aboard the Cessna 208B Grand Caravan was tested.
Overall, the system test was successful and a few improvement opportunities could be identified in order to ensure the success of future missions.
