Space-efficient housing and mobility concepts in growing urban and new suburban neighborhoods.

The growth of cities leads to a higher demand for mobility supply at the same time as decreasing land reserves.

Resolving this conflict requires the integration of housing, mobility and logistics concepts as part of the land-efficient planning of new urban neighborhoods. The use of these concepts is intended to support the achievement of economic, ecological and social goals by giving particular consideration to environmentally compatible alternatives to motorized individual transport.

Project

Move Urban is the first project to develop, systematize and communicate knowledge and options for action for the integrated content-related, organizational and legal design of area-efficient integrated housing, mobility and logistics concepts. Another new feature is the possibility of testing and evaluating the conceptualized approaches in an urban district that is currently being planned (Waterkant Berlin). DLR analyzes existing mobility and logistics concepts and derives recommendations for the concrete planning of the area. With the help of surveys and simulations of passenger and freight traffic, the measures used will be evaluated and consolidated in a catalog of recommendations for action. The project is led by the Senate Department for the Environment, Transport and Climate Protection. Other project partners are the Technical University of Berlin, the Institute for Climate Protection, Energy and Mobility, and Gewobag Wohnungsbau-Aktiengesellschaft Berlin, which is building around 2,500 apartments there together with WBM.

Goals

The aim of the project is to develop, systematize and communicate knowledge and action options for the planning and implementation of land-efficient integrated settlement and mobility concepts, their effects and their transferability. These concepts include coordinated measures in passenger and commercial transport as well as area logistics.
