Projects

Transport research at the DLR is carried out in theme-centred projects: the relevant DLR institutes research concrete solutions in an interdisciplinary way. All projects benefit from being pooled in the DLR together with its other programs Aeronautics, Space and Energy, as well as networking with politics, the economy and science.

MEDIAS

MEDIAS: Development of methods for efficient access to research data in data portals Background The user-centric provision of information about data and the data itself is increasingly gaining importance through the general availability of new approaches for the publication...

ITSforAsia

The DLR is working over 10 years in the field of sustainable transport for (upcoming) Megacities and urban areas generally. Outgoing from China in 2002, several joint projects and EC-projects were conducted and led to an good network with reliable project participants in economy...

IMPACT-1 - The Railway of the Future

Shift2Rail has a vision of radically transformed mobility for the people, regions and business of Europe. This is necessary to face the challenges from the most important current societal trends e.g. climate change, urbanisation, territorial and social cohesion.

VABENE++

The goal is to efficiently manage the required rescue logistics and the nearby traffic flow even under extreme conditions, thereby enabling response teams to rapidly reach the locations where they are needed. Research focuses on such areas as simulation and large-scale traffic...

NGT CARGO

The NGT CARGO trains will be composed of individual CARGO wagons and high-performance locomotives, as required. The individual CARGO wagons each have a built-in engine with lower performance as well as an energy reservoir on board. This means that they are able, autonomously and...

NGT HST

The DLR develops concepts to show the trends and technologies for future rail vehicles. The main goals of the Next Generation Train (NGT) project are shorter travel times and reductions in specific energy consumption, noise emissions, and wear, while increasing passenger safety...

NGT LINK

The DLR develops concepts to show the trends and technologies for future rail vehicles. The main goals of the Next Generation Train (NGT) project are shorter travel times and reductions in specific energy consumption, noise emissions, and wear, while increasing passenger safety...

Transport and the Environment

Focused expertise for a sustainable transport system How will we be mobile in tomorrow´s world? What options do we have to develop transport more sustainably? A network of twelve research institutes overseen by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is researching those and other...

Urban mobility

Cities are growing, forms of life and work are changing, people are mobile and interconnected – the urban population is constantly moving. At the same time, public transport in cities is being transformed: new systems of bicycle rental and carsharing are evolving and services...

COLOMBO

Urban traffic control (UTC) systems aim at enabling safe and efficient passing of the ever increasing road traffic flows at intersections and elsewhere. This requires determining the situation on the roads. Emerging cooperative techniques like vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I)...

A++ Set

Background Leading principle during navigation of vessels is the avoidance of collision and groundings to protect life, goods, and the maritime living space. However, a virtually unchanged number of ships’ accident has been observed during the last decade. Statistical analyses...
