Schienenverkehr

Das DLR forscht für den Verkehrsträger Schiene. Bei weiter steigendem Verkehrsaufkommen müssen alle Optionen für einen flüssigen und sicheren Verkehr genutzt werden. Bereits heute arbeiten die Eisenbahnen auf vielen Strecken an der Kapazitätsgrenze. Neben dem Ausbau von Infrastruktur muss es darum gehen, den Bahnbetrieb so sicher und umweltfreundlich wie möglich zu gestalten. Es gilt, weitere Kapazitätsreserven durch innovative Technologien zu erschließen und gleichzeitig negative Folgen des Bahnbetriebes wie Lärm und Erschütterungen zu reduzieren. Die Einführung von neuen Technologien muss so organisiert werden, dass sie sich reibungslos in den international vernetzten Schienenverkehr einfügen lassen. Nicht zuletzt soll der Kunde das neue Angebot annehmen und durch seine Entscheidung für die Bahn seinen Betrag zu einem nachhaltigeren Verkehr leisten.
